Procrastination Breeds Anxiety

Things left undone become reminders then turn into anxiety.

Spontaneity vs Procrastination

I have a dual personality at times. I’ll procrastinate over something and leave it until guilt forces me to get it done. It doesn’t matter what it is. It could be the dishes or doing my office filing. I know it must be done, but since I don’t want to, I’ll stay ‘busy’.

The other side of my personality is the spontaneous one. The dishes are done right after a meal. My filing is, well, filed.

My spontaneity is not efficiency. It’s a spurt of energy but it doesn’t last.

I think this inconsistency creates a lot of my anxious moments.

My spontaneous self berates my procrastinating self. I’ll say, ‘Self. See. You can do this. Don’t be lazy!”

The thing is, I don’t think I’m lazy when I pass things over. In those moments, I’m overwhelmed by life in general. It feels like a lot. There’s so much to do. Where do I start? Should I prioritize this over that?

Lists Save Me

I often stop and find a quiet moment. I’ll make a list of things that must be done. I might even categorize them.
